*disable_reuse “I don’t know about this, $!{player_first_name},” $!{roommate_name} says as the two of you head away from the city center. You two were on a sidewalk that was becoming more and more cracked with each step you made. In your hand was a print out of the flyer you first found while scrolling on social media. It was a very detailed sketch of Queen Ramona dancing with a skeleton, while a city burns behind them. Besides the address and time, the only other words on the flyer are “listen” and “resist” in all capital letters. “How do we know this isn’t some trap or--” $!{roommate_name} is cut off by the loud roar of cheering. You two pick up the pace and sprint towards the sound which was around a corner. Your eyes widen at the size of the crowd gathered in a park that had seen better days. People of all shapes and sizes are gathered around a makeshift stage. People are holding up all sorts of signs and posters. As you and $!{roommate_name} move closer, you see some of them say things like “weak Crowns fear strong citizens” and “not today, Satan”, with the word Satan crossed out and replaced with King Frederick’s name. A few people in the crowd move aside as you two approach, allowing you to get a better view of the speaker, who is holding a large megaphone. It’s a relatively short girl with jet black hair in a sleek ponytail. She’s tan with hooded eyes and has on black lipstick. *page_break “It's obvious that the Crown doesn’t care about us little people. This is even more obvious with this upcoming stunt, The Odessa Dating Games,” the girl says. Boos immediately erupt after she’s done saying the show’s name and the girl grins widely. “People are famished,” she continues. “Cities are overcrowded and gangs are rampant but all Frederick cares about is finding his kid a partner. Bullshit!” The crowd cheers and the girl grins even wider. “Believe me, Odessenters, our time will come. We will be protesting at each and every money wasting competition event until the Crown gets the message that will be will not be ignored! Godspeed?” “God no!” The crowd responds and cheers so loud, you’re sure that your ears are going to pop. The girl waves goodbye and hands the megaphone off to somebody else as she rushes off stage. A man replaces her, wearing a t-shirt that says “Not usually a protest person, but jeez”. “Thank you everyone. That was Jenna, leader of the largest Odessenters group in Odessa. That’s all for our rally today, but please feel free to mingle amongst one another, take pictures and pick up flyers or buttons on your way out!” After the man gets off the stage, people start moving in different directions, most of them heading towards the exit or to hug somebody they know. Many others are heading in the direction where Jenna’s standing, waiting to talk to her or take a picture with her. “So, you ready to leave $!{player_first_name}? Please tell me you’re ready to leave,” $!{roommate_name} says, already trying to tug you towards the exit. *fake_choice #“No, actually, I want to talk to that Jenna girl.” “Fine, we did come all this way after all,” $!{roommate_name} says as ${roommate_he_she} lets go of your arm. You two join the line for Jenna, which actually moves faster than you anticipated. Soon enough you’re in front of the girl, who looks you up and down before smirking. “Didn’t think you’d show up, $!{player_first_name}.” “How do you know my name?” You ask and she chuckles. “Now what kind of leader of an anti-Crown group would I be if I didn’t do my research? I know every single person that will be competing in the games. Especially you,” Jenna says, straightening her huge leather jacket. *fake_choice #“How the hell do you know that?” *set rude +1 *set snarky %+3 *set bold %+3 “We have a lot of eyes everywhere, as does the Crown. Ever since rumors began swirling about the list, we’ve been asking around, trying to figure out who could be there and who couldn’t,” Jenna begins, pausing to wave goodbye to a little boy, before turning her attention back to you. “I mean, you didn’t help your anonymity by being escorted around by Odessan Royal Guards all day long,” she adds with a slight chuckle. *if (background = "guard") "Also, well, you used to be in the Odessan Royal Guard. Not that hard to look you up." “Uh, this is still creepy,” you continue and Jenna rolls her eyes. “Oh please, at least I had the decency to tell you, unlike that mess they pulled with Lyon,” Jenna shoots back. “Just how do you know all of this information?” You ask, starting to get a bit annoyed. “Well, not every Odessenter is out here with a megaphone. Many are business people, high ranking officials and everything in between...and we’re growing. They get information for us, make sure they’re in the right places at the right time, all of that,” Jenna says. “But we don’t have anybody on the inside. The true inside.” She looks you over again and lets out a bit of a hum. “You could be that person, if you want.” *page_break *label jennaq *hide_reuse *fake_choice #“What’s in it for me, exactly?” “You get to help us show the Odessan people just who they’re ruled by,” Jenna answers. “A bunch of people who don’t care where your next meal is coming from, as long as you pay your taxes.” She pauses for a moment, as if debating her next choice of words before speaking again. “Besides that, a chance to change history, for the better. If you do prove to be a good asset, I’m sure money or other rewards could be arranged.” *page_break *goto jennaq #“Why should I join you guys?” Jenna grabs her ponytail and idly picks at a few split ends as she talks. “Why should you join the Odessenters you ask…a few reasons. You have to know that Frederick isn’t all he appears to be. Setting up a competition to get his kid married off is the first clue,” Jenna begins. “The history books have it all wrong about nearly everything in his history, especially the Great Odessan War.” She shakes her head. “I’m not a Fae advocate, or Fae conspiracy theorist, but you have to be a complete idiot to believe a species on track to outnumber humans can be wiped out with no trace. No matter how huge a bomb you unleash.” Jenna seems to hit her stride after that, going on to talk about other historical inconsistencies, some of the things that the Crown decided to focus on instead of citizen issues and what’s going on in other cities. “A lot of things don’t add up in that family. It’s not fair to the Odessan people. Also…” Jenna looks you up and down. “You’re young looking. People could listen to you if you wanted to be on the front lines, or follow your orders if you wanted to stay behind the scenes. There’s something I see in you that I haven’t seen since myself.” *page_break *goto jennaq #“How did the Odessenters start?” Jenna grins, nodding towards the same man you heard giving goodbye remarks. He’s too busy cleaning up flyers to notice all three of you looking at him. “My man Stefan over there,” she answers. “This whole movement, group, everything is all his creation.” Stefan eventually notices the three of you looking over at him and looks up, giving you all a sheepish smile and wave before scurrying off. Jenna watches him leave before turning her attention back to the two of you. “It was just a college club at first. He and I went to a community college and we started it after a long night of drinking and bitching about the world. We never thought it would get like this.” Jenna takes out her phone and taps around for a second before showing you and $!{roommate_name} a few pictures. “First picture was our first meeting, mostly other college kids and few people that heard about it online.” She slides to the right and you two look at a bunch of people bundled up in a coffee shop. “Our first meeting in the Far North. It’s hard to get up there, but we did it.” Finally, you look at one more picture with is a selfie of the Stefan and Jenna with a huge crowd behind them. “That was our meeting today. Grassroots works, no matter what people tell you,” she says, putting her phone away once you guys are done looking. “So, long story short, two college kids said ‘this shit is wack, let’s fix it’ and the rest is history.” *page_break *goto jennaq #“Who are the other leaders?” “So there’s me, the leader of the largest Odessenters group. The group’s headquarters is just a few blocks away. Hmm…” Jenna looks around until she sees a flyer on a nearby table and hands it to you. There is a hierarchy type chart on there with photos and pictures of everybody involved with the group. “Basically, for every region in Odessa that exists, there’s an Odessenters group and leader for it. We have a few people that do remote work from all over and one group in a different country. Then, obviously, Stefan is over the whole shebang,” Jenna explains. “But you’re obviously the most important one, right?” $!{roommate_name} asks. Jenna smirks and shrugs her shoulders. “I have the most clout, if you want me to be honest, but that’s only because I have a lot of people behind me. Without everybody, I’m nothing.” *page_break *goto jennaq #“What’s your ultimate goal?” “Good question…” Jenna pauses to think, stuffing her hands in her pants pockets. “The ultimate goal of the Odessenters is to get people to realize that they truly have more power than they realize. They’re more than just a bus driver or a CEO or a game contestant.” She smirks in your direction before continuing. “We want Frederick to let us handle things. By ourselves. Instead of hiring all these people and choosing who oversees the cities and towns, let us vote and decide,” she answers. “Just because he doesn’t overrule as often as his father doesn’t mean that he won’t start ramping it up one day.” *page_break *goto jennaq #“Tell me more about yourself.” “Me?” Her eyebrows raise. “Well, I’m from Moxley, out west. I have four brothers and went to school to be a teacher before deciding I wanted to do this instead.” “That’s it? You’re like...this crazy movement leader. I thought you’d have some, like, badass origin story,” $!{roommate_name} says which causes Jenna to chuckle. “Sorry, pal. I’m allergic to nuts? I like girls and guys? No origin story here.” Jenna grins and you’re pretty sure she’s just messing with the two of you. *page_break *goto jennaq #I’m done asking Jenna questions. "So. Hope I made a good first impression.” Jenna winks before sliding between the two of you, greeting the stragglers that were still hanging around to talk to her. “Guess we’d better make our way back too,” $!{roommate_name} says. Once you’re done, Jenna smirks. “Well, $!{player_first_name}, guess I’ll be seeing more of you, not just on my television screen.” Jenna nods towards both of you, before she walks away, greeting the last few stragglers left over from the rally. “Guess we’d better make our way back too,” $!{roommate_name} says.
