When you left home, that was all you left behind. It has always been you since you aged out of your town’s group home. You couldn’t wait for the day that you came of age because legally, there was finally nothing keeping you here. You had worked for years to save up money for your hatchback car so you could leave. You had few possessions, but what you did have was stuffed in the backseat. The grass and driveway had seen better days, as have the blinds and front door. The house numbers were starting to fade on the side of the mailbox, but you couldn’t find yourself to care. You were finally going off on your own, for real this time. “Goodbye,” you said softly to your small home, before making your way to your car. “Lox, I hope you’re worth it,” you added just as soft, backing up and making your way to the city. *page_break *goto_scene chapter1_roommatemeeting
