This is an experimental game designed to be played multiple times from different viewpoints to see the whole story, and multiple endings are possible for all but the vision sequence. There are some light puzzle aspects that might need some replays to work out how to best defeat the spirit (or on the other side create a spirit who can resist the Raishall's compulsion or be overpowered compared to how the summoner intended.) It is recommended to play each of the stories in order (Enchanter, Spirit, Vision) for the game to make the most sense (On release the next story will unlock on completion of the one prior). I've removed the if statements that will restrict this for now in the final version for game testing purposes. Please feel free to leave may any comments on the game (in the thread or PM, either are fine). There are a lot of if statements in this game, if you discover the story jumping weirdly, causing you to play as a character build you have not chosen, any misgendering etc. please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. I also had a few bugs (hopefully now all fixed) where the fight scene with the Raishall (spirit route) would finish early (only a few action in when you both still had plenty of health you'd win. (If you've been fighting for a while, the fight will time out so you can win by outlasting them, but it takes a while not like 3 actions in.) Spelling/grammar/weird tense shifts also appreciated (this game is written in Australian English so there might be a few seemingly random "u", and "s" instead of "z" for US English readers). If there's anything here that doesn't feel like you can respond correctly I'd also like to hear about it. Also do the fight sequences and checkpoints to evade the Raishall's pull and choose whether to do their task or not (spirit route) feel too easy or difficult? Too easy or difficult to be able to build your own creature how you want it? Restore points working ok (character creation, restart fights)? I'm not sure if I need to be more lenient with some of these. They should be a little challenging but not frustratingly difficult. Are the greyed out options for other elements you can't use with the fight as a spirit with the Raishall distracting? (I had a mixed response as to whether to leave them there as greyed out to see what you could do in other runs, or remove them to make it neater. I've left them all out at the moment, but not sure if the list is annoyingly long to sort through.) Would you play each path more than once to see the other endings or get a better result? Or is once each enough? If you don't mind sharing, what ending did you finish on for the first playthrough of the enchanter and spirit routes? I've activated the save feature but recommend against using it during the fight scene with the Raishall (spirit route) in particular as it may glitch out due to the *rand commands in there (you can get a chance to restart the fight at the end if it does not go the way you want). Thank you! *comment end of section to be removed for publishing********* *label foreword *page_break *comment story starts here. *if not(choice_randomtest) *image forewordheader.png center *image foreword.png center Foreword Welcome to a world laced with threads of elemental magic, a tempting target for those creatures whom are exiled to the grim realms of the void. This is an experimental game taking place over short periods of time and designed to be played multiple times from different viewpoints to discover the whole story and watch how your actions affect the course of the night and result in different endings. There are some light puzzle aspects that may require more than one playthrough to discover how to best achieve the goal or simulacra type and power you have in mind. More information including hints can be found in via the stats menu. The background can be changed to black for a more immersive experience via the settings menu. This story may not be suitable for young children. A save feature can store your character creation from the first story between playthroughs as long as the game is not completely reset. Important note: Using the "restart" button at the top of the page will cause a hard reset the game and delete all saves. If the character save is somehow lost, or a change in appearance is wished however, the your Raishall can easily be reset from the option in the stats menu at any time. What occurs in part one ("The Enchanter") will not restrict any of the choices you can make as the spirit (including the chosen appeaerence and elemental power set) in part two. It is recommended to play each of the stories in order (Enchanter, Spirit, Vision) to allow the game to build on the knowledge of what has gone before. I tilt my head and listen to the wind. Only tonight are the voices it carries as clear to my ears as any human speech. It shouldn't be surprising. After all, tonight is the longest night of the year where the veil separating the living from the spirit world is stretched gossamer thin. Only at this time could I hope to successfully perform the sorcery I have been tasked with. Frost crunches beneath my boots as I step into the clearing. A shiver runs down my spine that has nothing to do with the cold, as I feel the spectral touch of the creatures that lurk just beyond our realm. They are why I have come and reach out greedily, straining to reach the living essence they lack and yet crave above all else. Some voices are filled with anger and arrogance, growling demands harshly, while others are soft and silken as if laced with the sweetest honey. Though the spirits retreat a little, I can still hear them clearly, clamouring to be allowed to approach closer with promises of wealth, power and revenge. I may be Raishall, but I am not so new at this game, nor conceited enough, to think I could command these entities without the appropriate preparations and live to see the sun rise. Under such an oath it could not lie and live. Should I really trust it? "And what will you do when I let you in? What is the cost?" The image of a dark-haired man, his face yet unlined by age shimmers ghostly before my eyes. Piercing grey eyes narrow as his mouth twists downwards into a disappointed frown. At that moment I would have given anything not to be stuck inside being lectured at... as usual. Stupid gift... Curse is more like it. My mentor sighs, long black hair sweeping over his shoulders as he bows his head. "I know this may seem boring, but as much as you might wish it sometimes, you will never be like everyone else. The familiar flicker of power that usually accompanies this simple act is tonight magnified into a sharp jolt that sets my nerves jangling painfully. With a sharp intake of breath, I back away from the border, reminded once more of what is at stake should I fail to perform the ritual perfectly. The items needed for the task have already been gathered in preparation, stacked in neat piles at the centre. Though the rules and procedures governing the majority of the ritual are strict, there is some leeway in the form and nature of the creation a practitioner can choose to bring a semblance of life to. For this task I need a hunter, one that will tirelessly stalk its target no matter how far or fast they may run. No mortal dog would be up to such a task, and it is for this reason alone why I had been employed to perform the risky magics tonight. Whatever my thoughts on the matter, as always, it is my duty to the clan to obey the will of the council of elders. First though, I must choose the material to build a skeleton. Even if I hadn't possessed a touch of the sight, it would be plain to see that the woman before me believes what she says. Still, a mother's love can be blinding, and it may be she sees only the truth that she allows herself see. "It is too late," I grate out feeling the strain more than ever. "As you can see, the ritual is complete. I cannot send it back, not until it has been given what it came for." "Then send it after your chief," she spits out vehemently. "I will give you a place in my own tribe. You will be honoured as is fitting, and not have to serve such deceitful filth ever again." Though she may intend to keep her promise, I know the words to be empty of meaning. If I were to betray my own tribe in such a way, I would become ashkna, dishonoured. No one would ever treat me with respect again, and it is likely that the life remaining to me would not long. Besides, the thought of betraying the one I'd been oath bound to serve since a child sends chills down my spine. Seeing my hesitation, she speaks up once more in a voice that trembles in fear. It is a power that can bring even a chieftain to their knees with a few words in the night. The choices I make will weigh on my soul until the day I die, that much is apparent to me now. Head spinning, I sink to the ground in exhaustion as a vision of my old mentor swims before my eyes. She nods rapidly, eyes wide as if almost fearing to believe you will do as she requests. "Of course. Anything you ask for will be yours." With a sigh I unclench stiff, frozen fingers, releasing the strip of cloth to flutter to the ground. "Very well." In a swift motion, I tear the beads from my neck. They were a gift from my chieftain. A sign of honour for the risk I was putting myself in for this night's work. With luck they still have enough of his scent upon them for the spirit to track. "Oh, and I guess Arda helped." "What happened? I should be dead." Symn's expression twists into a concerned frown. "Was hoping you knew. Me? I know nothing of Raishall secrets. But even I can tell, whatever happened here? It didn't go to plan." He gestures to a twisted pile of clay and rocks, still forming the rough shape of an animal.
