to A Dog's Life! This originally started in Dec 2016, but since then it has grown so much! Much is the same, but the mother scenes are completely redone for mutts & purebreds! A lot will be missing, changed, or broken at first, so please bear with me! *page_break This is the world of dogs! Copyright 2017 by Sol Falyk Welcome to A Dog's Life! You are starting out as a puppy, just before they leave their mother. You can be a purebred, a mutt, or even a hybrid or wild canine! Live your life to the fullest, makes friends and enemies, make the right choices to get where you want to be, or end up where you will never survive. *page_break You can become a stray, living free of humans and their rules but then you will risk your life all the time just trying to survive. You can also become a pet, but there are many choices on what kind of pet! A service dog, taking care of a single human? A rescue dog, doing search and rescue for humans and animals that are trapped and possibly hurt? A police dog, sniffing out drugs or bombs, maybe chasing the criminals, or just being a guard dog for your human partner? A fire house dog is like a rescue dog but you mainly deal with running into burning buildings, doing your best to help those in the terrible heat. You can even be a simple pet, just enjoying your family. *line_break The choice is yours, but can you get there? *page_break Your Info So let's get started. Male or Female? *choice #Male So you're a male? Alright. *set sex "Male" *goto name #Female So you're a female? That's a neat name! *goto breed *label breed *line_break *line_break So now we know your name, but what breed are you? Are you a giant, large, medium, small, or tiny breed? Each breed comes with its own stats & challenges! Some breeds are better at fighting, while some are better suited for being nice to others or being lap dogs. *line_break Just a warning, some breeds are better as strays, some are better as house pets. Larger breeds will get a head start on Strength stat, while a smaller breed might be smarter at first. The Hybrid/Other choices get larger bonuses than a purebred or a mutt, however the humans might be scared of you as you get older, even if you are friendly to them. Wolves scare humans, even in home situations, so keep that in mind. *label breeds *choice #Choose for me! You will get the choice to let the game choose your breed for you. This includes exotic, wild, and fictional breeds. This does not include mutts. Want to randomize? *choice #Yes Ok, you can randomize between all breeds, purebreds, wilds, exotics, and even between breed sizes. (please keep in mind that some fictional breeds are not finished, so you may be taken back to the breeds list) *choice #All Breeds *rand randbreed 1 75 *if (randbreed = 1) *goto randbreed1 *if This breed has a unique appearance and an alert and restful but attentive personality. This dog has three different sizes. Standard, Miniature, and Toy. *line_break At first glance, the Xolo does not have an attractive appearance. A wrinkled brow, squinty eyes, satellite-dish ears, a mohawk bisecting the top of his head, and a rat-like tail, not to mention a mostly hairless body, make this dog one that only his mother would love. *line_break However, they have a lean sturdy body with well defined muscles and a body that is slightly longer than they are tall. A wedge shaped skull gently tapers into a narrow muzzle. The expression is that of a smart and lively dog whose brow wrinkles when they focus on something. *line_break They have almond shaped eyes that range from yellow to black. As puppies, they seem to small for their skin but it smooths as they grow and they fill it out. The feet are webbed and the tail is thin and fine. *line_break *line_break A dog with moderate exercise needs, they have a calm personality. However, they are a primitive breed with instincts to chase other animals and an assertive and protective nature, In other words, he can be predatory, stubborn, and inclined to bite first ask questions later if he thinks his person is in danger. *line_break Aloof to strangers and alert to their families, he usually chooses one specific person as his human but will still give affection to other members of the family. Excellent watchdogs, they will warn of anything he senses as danger; however this dog is not a good dog to be left alone. *line_break A smart dog, use gentle positive reinforcement and soon all you need is a stern look to help him behave. They are also highly athletic; 6 foot fences are no match for an adult and even puppies can scale a 3 foot fence. *line_break *line_break The standard size stands at 18-23 inches tall and they can weigh anywhere between 10-50 lbs. They have a square body and fox-like look and are "bark pointers". They bark to alert the hunter of prey location. *line_break Generally used to hunt squirrels or grouse, they have also been used to hunt moose, elk, and bears. *line_break Rather small hunting dogs (they are called medium for the game because of height as well as weight), their necks are shorter than other spitz breeds because Finnish Spitz look up to point their game. Their head is wedge shaped and resembles a fox. *line_break *line_break Having a light, lively gait, they are as intelligent as they are animated. They are good for active families and get along well with children and other dogs. They make good watchdogs as well. *line_break They have a unique hunting style. They run ahead of the hunter until they find a bird, then run around in front of the bird, distracting it. As they do, they bark softly and then get louder and louder. It's thought that this lures the bird into a false sense of security. If the bird takes off, the dog follows and repeats. *line_break They are definitely barkers; they need to be taught Speak and/or Hush (also called quiet in the game) and you need tolerant neighbors. They are intelligent, so don't teach in a repetitive manner. *line_break They are also slow to mature; it can take up to four years to mature completely. They aren't high energy, but do need a good amount of exercise. *line_break A versatile breed, they don't have any particular skill they excel in but they are smart and quick to learn. They will learn agility to obedience, or tracking to herding. They do draw the line at jumping into a cold lake to go after a bird though. One thing you must be careful of is they're "What's in it for me?" attitude when training, as they will sometimes choose not to listen. *line_break *line_break First time dog owners will have their hands full, but experienced owners will be able to handle this breed well. Whippet's's are very good apartment dogs as long as they can be taken to an enclosed area to run around in. Low energy when inside, they can quickly become destructive if they don't get enough exercise. Not good guard dogs, Whippet's are very friendly even to strangers. This breed has a unique appearance and an alert and restful but attentive personality. Weighing 22-24 pounds, they live 10-12 years. *line_break One of the oldest dog breeds in the world, the Basenji is a generally quiet dog. Believed to not entirely be domesticated, the Basenji's are like their cousin's, the wolf, and bark very rarely due to this. A Basenji's metabolism is more like a wild dog, and females only go into cycle once a year rather than twice. Discovered in the Congo, they were used to flush game into nets, carry goods, and warn of approaching dangerous animals. *line_break While they do not bark, Basenji's make other sounds such as whining, screams, and yodels. Being independent, Basenji's are very difficult to train. They do not seem to obey humans and it takes excellent training to reel them in. They are also excellent escape artist and have high prey drive, so they should never be off leash outside the home and yard, and must be watched. Having high energy, they can become extremely destructive if its not expended correctly. Basenji's do not do good being alone and must always be with the family. *set eyes "Brown" *line_break *line_break Basenji's can be brindle, black, tricolor, blue belton, or tan. *set subbreed "Hound" *set size "Small" *set breed "Basenji" *set ears "Erect" *set coat "Short" *set texture "Smooth" *set tail "Curly Thin" *set muzzle "Short Narrow" *set legs "Thin" *set vocal %+30 *set listen %-20 *set pack %+15 *set str +1 *set int +4 *set guard +1 *set hunt +1 *rand like 40 60 *rand moral 40 60 *rand rank 30 70 *rand play 40 60 *rand fear 40 60 *rand humview 40 60 *rand coatpat 1 5 *if (coatpat = "1") *set pelt "Tan" *goto_scene puremom *if (coatpat = "2") *set pelt "Black" *goto_scene puremom *if (coatpat = "3") *set pelt "Tricolor" *goto_scene puremom *if (coatpat = "4") *set pelt "Blue Belton" *goto_scene puremom *if (coatpat = "5") *set pelt "Brindle" *goto_scene puremom *goto_scene puremom #Shiba Inu *label randbreed45 A companion dog, they stand at 1'1" to 1'5", weigh 17-23 pounds, and live 12-16 years. *line_break Coming from Japan with the Akita, Shikoku, Kai Dog, Hokkaido, and Kishu, the Shiba is the smallest of these breeds. This breed has a unique appearance and an alert and restful but attentive personality. Once common in North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, they are now found mostly in remove wilderness areas. The largest living members of the canide family, there are many distinct species. Two are found in North America; the Red Wolf, which has shorter redder fur than grey wolves, and the Grey Wolf, which has thicker fur that is usually golden and grey and much larger than red wolves. *line_break There are also many subspecies; they include arctic wolves, and Mexican grey wolves, which have recently been reintroduced into SW America after nearly going extinct. *line_break The grey wolf (the wolf for this game) actually ranges in color from pure white to pitch black. The most common coat is a tawny brown. *line_break Adult males usually weigh 75-120 pounds, while females weigh 60-95 pounds. Wolves that live in harsher and colder climates may be slightly bigger and heavier than wolves in warmer climates. Their eyes range in color from gold to orange to green. They are blue at birth like humans, and may change around 8 weeks after birth. *line_break Built with longer, slender legs and narrow chest, they are adapted to running after fast prey such as deer and elk. They can reach up to 45 mph for short distances. Their claws do not retract. *line_break *line_break Wolves eat mainly meat, and their favorite prey is hooved animals such as deer, elk, moose, caribou, and bison. Wolves hunt such big animals in groups called packs, and packs can vary in size. Sometimes they will also eat rabbits, squirrels, snakes, birds, and fish. Wolves do not snarl and growl at their prey like some documentaries show; they actually actually look very happy when hunting, wagging their tails, they stay quiet, their ears are straight up, and might even appear friendly. They can up to 20% of their body weight in one kill; they do not eat every day and must gorge themselves whenever they can. Contrary to belief, alpha's do not always eat first; usually it is the hungriest wolf, and omega's (the scapegoats of the pack) always eat last, if there is anything left. *line_break For more info on wolves, please go to *link wolfpark.org/animals/info/wolves/ *set breed "Wolf" *set subbreed "Wild" *set size "Large" *set coat "Medium" *set texture "Thick" *set tail "Long Fluffy" *set ears "Erect" *set muzzle "Long Narrow" *set legs "Long Thin" *set listen %-20 *set like %-15 *set vocal %+15 *set pack %+50 *set str +7 *set agi +4 *set int +3 *set smell +2 *set sight +1 *set hear +1 *set hunt +3 *rand play 40 60 *rand fear 40 60 *rand humview 10 30 *rand coatpat 1 12 *if (coatpat = "1") *set pelt "White" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "2") *set pelt "Pale Grey" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "3") *set pelt "Dark Grey" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "4") *set pelt "Black" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "5") *set pelt "Tawny Brown" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "6") *set pelt "Red Brown" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "7") *set pelt "Silver" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "8") *set pelt "Blonde" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "9") *set pelt "Black & Grey" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "10") *set pelt "Black & Brown" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "11") *set pelt "Sandy" *goto wolfeyes *if (coatpat = "12") *set pelt "Cinnamon" *goto wolfeyes *label wolfeyes *rand eyes1 1 7 *if (eyes1 = "1") *set eyes "Brown" *goto_scene wildmom *if (eyes1 = "2") *set eyes "Grey" *goto_scene wildmom *if (eyes1 = "3") *set eyes "Yellow" *goto_scene wildmom *if (eyes1 = "4") *set eyes "Blue" *goto_scene wildmom *if (eyes1 = "5") *set eyes "Gold" *goto_scene wildmom *if (eyes1 = "6") *set eyes "Amber" *goto_scene wildmom *if (eyes1 = "7") *set eyes "Green" *goto_scene wildmom *goto_scene puremom #Wolf Hybrid (High Content) *label randbreed76 A wolf mixed with a domestic dog is known as a wolfdog. They live around 10-14 years in the wild, up to 20 in captivity. *line_break Instead of packs, they commonly hunt alone or in pairs and unlike dogs, coyotes hunt with their tails down. They are also extremely vocal. They also have very few natural predators, with those preds being bears, wolves, and mountain lions. They will eat almost anything and are very good swimmers. They also have a greater sense of smell and greater sight than dogs. Coyotes are known to run up to 40 mph, almost as fast as a wolf! They make noises at night to find their families and tell their own location; and coyotes have only one mate their entire lives but will have anywhere between 3-12 pups in a single litter, and pups are born blind. *line_break Coyotes rarely build their own dens, instead they take over abandoned ones. Those dens could be burrows, under bushes, hollow trees, rock outcrops, and will glady move their pups if they feel their in danger. *line_break Coyotes are also omnivores (means they eat anything), and are not picky at all. They are even known to eat small dogs and cats, and their meat diet usually consist of mice, snakes, birds, and are known to eat berries and fruits. Playing as these breeds may add some complications when interacting with humans, as you are much less likely to end up as a service dog, firehouse, police, or therapy dog. However, you could end up as a show dog depending on what breed/species you choose because you may look enough like a purebred dog. *line_break Please keep in mind that at some point in the game, if you are recognized by certain humans, you will be taken back to the sanctuary, a zoo, or released into the wild wherever your species normally lives. *choice #Maned Wolf *label randbreed80 A wolf in name only, the Maned Wolf is the only species of its genus, Chrysocyon. Nicknamed a "fox on stilts", they do look more like foxes. They have russet fur with a white throat, white underbelly, and white tail tip. Their long legs are black, are the most recognizable thing. *line_break They also have a stretch of black fur that runs along the back of their neck and shoulders, which gives the maned wolf its maned appearance. *line_break Found in South America, the Maned Wolf stands at 74-78 cm and weighs 20-23 kg. It's diet is varied, as it is an omnivore, which means it eats both meat and plants. It usually eats smaller mammals like rabbits or armadillo's, and sometimes the occasional deer. *line_break Primarily solitary, the maned wolf really only gathers to mate. The female gives birth to 1-5 pups, averaging three, and suckles them for up to 15 weeks. Maned wolves can mate after reaching 1 year, but don't usually until their second. It is an Endangered species found in sub-Saharan Africa. *line_break Also called the painted dog, they only have four toes per foot rather than five. It's coat is made up of red, black, brown, white, and yellow fur. Each coat has its own unique pattern. *line_break Living in packs led by a monogamous breeding pair, the female can have a litter of anywhere between 2 to 20 pups, which are then cared for by the whole pack. Brought to Australia around 5000 years ago by Indonesian Seafarers, they do not bark but instead howl like wolves. *line_break Weighing between 13-24kg, males are usually heavier than females. They stand at 52-63 cms. They can be sandy yellow to red ginger in color, but a small percentage are black, black-tan, or white. They usually have white marking on their chest, feet, and tail tip. *line_break Found in a variety of habitats, from the alpines to the woodlands to the forest and even to the desert, they are well scattered across most of Australia; strangely they are absent from the island of Tasmania. *line_break Mostly active at dawn and dusk, dingo's have a varied diet of different animals but their main food is wallaby and kangaroo. They will also eat rabbits, possums, gilders, rats, and mice. Surprisingly, they rarely attack livestock. Dingo-Dog mixes and feral dogs are to blame, not dingo's themselves. *line_break They breed only once a year, having 4-6 pups in each litter. Pups usually leave shortly after weaning, but may stay with their family for up to a year. Packs usually range up to 12 animals, mainly it's made up of immediate family members like pups, pups from the previous years, the the mating pair. *line_break Dingo's are currently endangered, but pure dingo's are actually rare. They can be tan, brown, grey, and white. Some have a "cape" along their back, but can look similar to a coyote. *line_break Generally found in packs of 10-30 animals, they use their numbers to their advantage in a similar way that the wolf does in both hunting and protectoin. They are well adapted to hunting small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Some jackals have been known to even eat poisonous snakes. *line_break Jackals are nocturnal, meaning they hunt at night. Although they belong to a pack, they usually hunt alone or with one other jackal. They are considered a working class dog because of their great strength and size. *line_break They stand at 2'8" to 3' tall, weigh 120-180 lbs, and live between 8-12 years. They have a natural genetic mutation; long thing legs and a fox-like long narrow snout. It was this feature that led the founder, Hex Tala, into turning this into a new breed instead of a designer breed. *line_break Their long and smooth fur also helps set them apart from their parent breeds. *line_break *line_break These giants are extremely gentle and are total couch potatoes. They carry the ancient genes for hunting though, given to them by their Wolfhound DNA. But they are much friendlier than Wolfhound's, showing their Great Dane roots by cuddling up to their humans whenever they can. They get along with everyone, even cats and strangers. Their bravery however can make this dangerous, as they are very trusting dogs that know very little limits unless trained early on. *line_break Due to their friendly nature, they would make excellent therapy dogs though. Their size may be a problem, but if trained correctly they can easily learn to work around it. *line_break Though couch dogs, they do need a good amount of energy as puppies or they can become quite destructive, especially if not trained properly. As adults, this turns into destructive behaviors that border on escape behaviors, such as digging in the yard or chewing their way through the door just to get outside. *line_break Officially recognized in 2018, very few people know of this breed, let alone how to train these smart dogs. *line_break *line_break Irish Dane's have five different coats. A cross between a wolf and a Mastiff-Great Dane mix, these dogs have inherited the size of Great Dane's and Mastiff's but the lean shape and stride of wolves. *line_break They can reach a weight of 120-180 lbs, stand at 2'4" to 2'8", and live about 10-12 years on average. This is all guesses since the breed is fairly rare and still somewhat new, as current generations are bred to Mastiff's or Great Dane's to keep it alive. Rarely they are bred with full blooded wolves. *line_break *line_break In the late 1970's the first of this breed came forth, and scientist began training these dogs in combat. Instead of taking on a vicious and cruel nature like expected, these dogs turned out to be extremely loyal and protective canines. They are silent protectors, only barking when needed. *line_break They were trained to be fast, reaching speeds of up to 40-45 mph when sprinting. They were trained in attacking and chasing, and because of their origins they have among the most powerful bite in the dog world. They were nicknamed the "Death Hound" because if these dogs do not hold back, their opponent would be killed immediately or die very soon. *line_break When it was discovered that they held an unusual amount of compassion, it was realized that they were not eager to learn combat because they were mean, but because they knew it would help them protect soldiers and other people. They refused to fight in cold blood, showing more courage than cowardice to rebel against their trainers when asked to kill animals or people who were not a threat. *line_break After this, the scientist decided to euthuanize each dog, but the dogs were smuggled out by a spy and taken to America. Almost every dog was smuggled out before the scientist noticed. They were taken to secret locations in order to hide them, but eventually made their ways into homes as pets and even into work such as Guard Dogs, Attack Dogs for the police, and similar works. *line_break Due to their loyal and friendly nature, they make excellent service dogs but need to be supervised because of their great size and strength. They are not good dogs for homes with children, as they can hurt them accidentally. *line_break *line_break With yellow or pale blue eyes, they have six different coat patterns. Black, dark brown, chocolate, dark grey, black & red, and brown & red. Their fur is usually short and thick. They inherited the long snout of a wolf, while their legs are long and thick. They are extremely friendly and natural born runners. Standing at 23-26 inches and weighting between 60-90 lbs, these friendly hyperactive dogs are good with kids but need a lot of exercise. *line_break Living an average of 8-11 years, these are no couch potatoes. With thick coats built for winter, these sturdily built dogs are naturals for Draft Pulling and surprisingly Guarding. They may be friendly, but their tendancy to attach themselves to one human means they will defend that human devoutly, even going as far as risking their own life needlessly if they think their human is danger. *line_break Extremely intelligent, Bernese Huskies were specifically bred for the Show Ring, mainly Obedience Trials and Agility. With their mix of Huskies however, they really excel at Draft Pulling. *line_break However they have one downside. They get sick in the Summer easily due to their long thick coats. They can quickly become overheated and need to drink almost twice as much water as other dogs. *line_break *line_break They were first discovered in the 80's when a Bernese made an appearance in a Dog Show and was bred with an Alaskan Husky. The puppies had tricolor Husky markings, with the large build of the Bernese Mountain. When they were older, they all showed the tendencies listed above: the great stamina, the near limitless energy, the friendly but extremely protective personalities. *line_break Typically they are found with a new marking, called the Husky Tricolor. They can be Black or Red Husky Tricolor. They always have blue eyes however. *line_break Their legs are thick but long, adding to their endurance and speed. They are considered working dogs, despite being a rather small dog. Due to their build and weight they are considered medium dogs. *line_break They are natural scenthounds, using their noses for hunting and occasionally police work. They are also fast, with great endurance and being about to keep pace with some of the fastest dogs, though they fall short of Greyhound or Borzoi speed. *line_break At first it was mistaken for an Askal, a mongrel dog in the Philippines. It was believed to be first bred in the late 50's-60's, but was not discovered as a new breed until the 70's. When it was realized that these mongrels had traces of Labs, a common breed found in the local households, it was realized it was a new breed entirely. *line_break Unknowingly the villagers had been breeding a new dog that was a natural at hunting field mice and other pest, while keeping the DNA pure. Although the Father of the breed in unknown, it is thought to be a previously thought extinct wild dog found in the surrounding areas. *line_break With its unusually hyperactive and aggressive tendencies, it was let loose in the countryside and farms to deal with the pest plaguing the farms and ruining crops. During the day the dogs would hunt, but at night they always returned home to rest from their exhausting day. In the morning this would repeat. *line_break When tired, their aggressive tendencies melt away and are more likely to be friendlier. Due to its massive amount of energy however, it's best not to keep this dog indoors most of the time. They need room to run and explore freely. *line_break *line_break Medium in size, the large ears are perked up and erect, possibly a remnant of its unknown ancestor.
